This is the home page for my on-going research project on the destruction of the Yuanmingyuan, the “Summer Palace” of the Emperor of China, by British and French troops in 1860.
So far this is a collection of bibliographical notes, pictures and primary sources. The first entries were made at the end of February 2006. More will be made available as the project progresses. Feel free to click on the links to the right for access to the material.
The book will be published by Paradigm Publishers in the United States in 2010. Eventually drafts of my book chapters will also appear on this page. Stay tuned.
